Saved Cards

Checkout saves the card — with consent — so the balance never needs a phone call.

✦ Key takeaways

  • When a customer pays online — a deposit or the full amount — their card is saved with their consent
  • The saved card can cover the remaining balance, add-ons, guest-count changes, and booking changes
  • Card numbers never touch Freebo’s servers; they’re stored securely with Stripe

A $99 deposit gets a $1,200 charter on the calendar — and leaves you holding an IOU for the rest. Without a card on file, collecting that balance means phone tag, waiting on a reply, or hoping the customer shows up at the dock ready to pay. Saved cards end that: the same card the customer used at checkout stays available, with their consent, for everything the booking still owes.

How it works

  1. The customer pays online At checkout the customer agrees to the terms and pays — a deposit or the full amount. That consent is recorded with the booking, timestamped.
  2. The card is saved with Stripe The card is stored securely on the customer’s Stripe profile, ready for future charges. Freebo keeps only the brand and last four digits, so you can recognize the card without ever holding the number.
  3. Charge what's owed, when it's owed When the balance comes due — or the group adds guests, add-ons, or changes the booking — charge the saved card straight from the reservation. The amount is always priced from Freebo’s ledger, never a stale figure.

What a saved card can cover

The card is authorized at checkout for the charges a booking actually generates:

  • The remaining balance — deposit today, the rest when it’s due
  • Add-ons — gear, catering, extras added after booking
  • Guest-count changes — the group grows, the price adjusts
  • Booking changes — reschedules or upgrades that change the total

Prefer to let the customer pay on their own time? Payment links handle that route — both post to the same ledger, so the outstanding balance stays right either way.

Does the customer have to agree to their card being saved?
Yes. The customer agrees to the terms at checkout before paying, and Freebo records that consent with a timestamp on the booking.
Where is the card stored?
With Stripe, on the customer's secure payment profile. Freebo's own records keep only the card brand and last four digits — the number never touches Freebo's servers.
What can I charge to a saved card?
The remaining balance, add-ons, guest-count adjustments, and booking changes — the charges a booking actually generates. Each charge is priced from the ledger at the moment you make it.
Does this work for deposits and full payments?
Both. Any online checkout payment saves the card, so even a fully paid booking has a card on file for add-ons or changes later.
